Life Safety Systems
Fire Alarm Panel
The fire alarm panel, public address systems, elevator controls, emergency plans and fire department phones are located in the lobby level Fire Command Center.
The fire alarm panel will trigger an alarm upon detections of smoke, water flow or system trouble alarms. As a fail-safe measure the system is also monitored off-site by a licensed fire alarm monitoring company 24/7/365 days a year.
Public Address System
The public address system is capable of delivering emergency messages to a single floor, multiple floors or the entire building for large scale emergencies. It is extremely important to listen carefully to the emergency message. The emergency message will describe the emergency and give instructions if an evacuation or shelter in place is needed.
Smoke Detectors
Smoke detectors are located on each floor in electrical closets, elevator shafts, elevator lobbies, mechanical rooms, return air plenums and will activate an alarm at the fire alarm panel and at the off-site monitoring company.
Sprinkler System
Sprinklers are located throughout the building on each floor and will activate a water flow alarm at the fire alarm panel and at the off-site monitoring company.
Manual Pull Stations
Manual fire alarm pull stations are located on each floor near the stairwells. To operate pull the handle as instructed on the pull station.
Stairwells
The office tower has two stairwells. In an emergency event, occupants must use them to evacuate their floor and the fire department will use them to get to the fire. The stairwell walls are fire rated for two hours and the stairwells are pressurized with fresh outside air to keep out smoke. The stairwells are equipped with phone jacks for the fire department use and emergency lighting is tied into the emergency generator. Stairwell doors that are kept locked from the stairwell side will automatically unlock during a fire condition allowing reentry.
Elevators
During a fire condition, all elevators will be recalled to the lobby level. In the event of a power failure the elevators will stop then move one at a time to the lobby level. One elevator in each bank will be powered by the emergency generator and will continue to operate in the normal manner for firefighter use only. Each elevator cab has emergency lighting and communications will remain operative.
Emergency Generator
The generator provides emergency lighting in stairwells, corridors, elevators, and exit signs. It also powers the elevators one at a time to the lobby and continues to use one elevator in each bank. It also powers the fire alarm panel and public address system.
